You win some, you lose some,

Don’t be a bad loser and a bum,

Life is an interplay of shadow and light,

Let us get this simple straight fact right,

Every dream run has eventually to end,

To this truth the weight of your understanding lend,

Can’t we see that what will be, will be,

So why on succeeding give way to unbridled glee,

And why on losing sink into untamed despair

When every broken thing is open to rejuvenation and repair?

Life calls upon us to take highs and lows in our stride,

They are our constant companions in this world big and wide,

When you are down, chin up and smile,

Defeat will transform into victory in a short while,

Be a stoic witness to the cosmic play of sun and cloud,

Be even of temper and of this evenness be proud!

कैसे होते हैं अच्छे मित्र?

जैसे कोई नायाब इन्र

जिसकी ख़ुशबू से फ़िज़ा महके,

अंतर्मन हो गदगद रह रहके,

वे करते जीवन को रौशन,

अंतरात्मा का करते पोषण,

ह्रदय तारों को झंकृत करते,

ख़ाली झोली को वे भरते,

तपती रेत पर बादल की छाया,

हमारे हमजोली और हमसाया,

उन्हें मानिए प्रकृति का वरदान,

मिलें जो करिए मोती दान,

झंझावात में वे थामें हाथ,

क्यों डरिये जब वे हों साथ?

निर्मम जगत में हमरा मर्म वे जानें,

क्यों न उन्हें एक अमूल्य निधि मानें?

बुन लिए नफ़रतों के जटिल जाल,

क्या कर लिया हमने अपना हाल,

भगवान को बाँट लिया कई हिस्सों में,

क़ैद कर लिया उसे अपने-अपने क़िस्सों में,

घृणा-द्वेष और वैमनस्य का किया ऐसा तांडव,

त्रस्त हुए जिससे न जाने कितने पांडव,

झुकने को मान लिया सबने बहुत सस्ता,

चुन लिया लोभ, मोह, अहंकार का रस्ता,

हमने प्रेम पथ विस्तार किया नहीं,

प्रभु के प्रति प्रगट आभार किया नहीं,

सुंदर मानवीय संभावनाओं को जिया नहीं,

विष का प्याला चुन लिया, आनंद सोम पिया नहीं,

युद्ध का बिगुल बजा, मानवता कह उठी, ” त्राहिमाम”,

कण-कण में बसे ईश्वर तत्व का भी नहीं किया सम्मान,

विषमताओं के इस गरल को नियति अपनी बना लिया,

क्या बन सकते थे हम, ख़ुद को क्या बना लिया?

Pollution is rocking,

We are all choking,

We inhale this poisonous air,

Where do we go from here?

We have created this monster,

Of our collective sins it is a roster,

While we cough, wheeze and choke,

Nature does us disinterestedly mock,

While we cower, gasp and whine,

Upon us descends the punishment divine,

As we have decimated nature like perverts,

We are now getting our just deserts,

As our lungs barely hold out against this toxic air,

Where do we go from here?

ग़ुरूर के चलते सजदे में सर झुकाना भूल जाता हूँ

ख़ुद को तेरी पाक मोहब्बत के काबिल बनाना भूल जाता हूँ

भूल जाता हूँ तेरी रहमतों का शुकर करना

भूल जाता हूँ नहीं चाहिए मुझे अपनी सलाहियतों का दम भरना

भूल जाता हूँ कि मैं तो तेरे कदमों की ख़ाक हूँ

वक़्त के कदमों में यूँही बिछी राख हूँ

भूल जाता हूँ कि तू मेरा परवरदिगार है

कि मेरा रेशा-रेशा तेरा क़र्ज़दार है

शिकायत करता हूँ कि तू मुझे दिखता नहीं

मेरा इक शानदार मुस्तक़बिल लिखता नहीं

जानता हूँ कि नापाक मेरा दिल और झूठी मेरी शिकायत

मैंने भी कहाँ निभायी है खुदाई की रिवायत

ए ख़ुदा, मेरी बेशुमार ख़ताओं पे न ग़ौर कर

पाकीज़गी दे कि तेरा हाथ थाम सकूँ दौड़ कर

रहम कर और मुझे अपनी रहमतों से नवाज़

ताकि मेरी ज़िंदगी में भी हो इक इलाही सहर का आग़ाज़

कितने प्रश्न मुँह बायें खड़े हैं

उत्तर की माँग पर अड़े हैं,

ये सवाल वाक़ई हैं बहुत ढीठ,

न मोड़ सकते तुम उनसे पीठ,

सही-ग़लत न्याय-अन्याय की पूछते बात,

न ये देखें दिन और न ही देखें रात,

अनंत काल से ये यूँ ही अचल अडिग खड़े हैं,

इनको हल करते-करते हम कितने विवादों में पड़े हैं,

पर कहाँ पकड़ पाया है कोई सत्य-असत्य का छोर,

क्या किया है आपने कभी इस बात पर ग़ौर,

ये प्रश्न यूँ ही अधर में लटके रहेंगे,

तकते रहेंगे हमें और कुछ न कहेंगे,

पर ये हमें चैन से जीने भी नहीं देंगे,

यूँ ही प्रत्येक युग में हमारी परीक्षा लेंगे,

चाहे कितनी भी रही हो किसी समय की माँग,

इन शंकाओं का सागर कौन पाया है लांघ?

One day your whole life will flash before your eyes,

So in living your life be prudent and wise,

Do not in any way accumulate follies and sin,

That way the battle of life you can never win,

If you are honest in earning your daily bread,

That is what will stand you in good stead,

If you do not any pettiness or chicanery come nigh,

You will be able to walk with your head held high,

If you do not swallow of the world any lowly bait,

If on the straight and narrow path you keep steady your gait,

If you do not give way to the distortions of the mind,

A whole lot of happiness and peace you will find,

At the end of the day you will have on your conscience no weight,

You can always live light and die light,

If you know how to live a life that is good and right!

इंसानी क़दरों का पतन

न सह सकता कोई वतन

इन क़दरों को जो खो दिया

मानो विनाश का बीज बो दिया

भूल गए सही ग़लत का फ़रक

तो समझो हो गए हम गरक

बर्बादियों के रस्ते खुल जाएँगे

फिर कहाँ चैन हम पाएँगे

इंसानियत को ग़र दिया गंवा

सारी तरक़्क़ी हो जाएगी हवा

जब ग़ैरत हाथ से जाएगी

तो शर्मसारी की हाथ आएगी

समझ लें इस बात को

न हाथ सुझाई देगा हाथ को

ग़र रोशनी के सब रस्ते कर दिए बंद

और ज़मीर बेच कमा लिए सिक्के चंद

ये दौलत किस काम आएगी

ग़र अस्मत ही विदा हो जाएगी

Alone we come and alone we go,

Alone we walk on the earth,

Of truth in this there is no dearth,

Alone we all bear our yoke,

Sounds like a cosmic joke!

Alone we are in our woe and pain,

Alone in our loss and gain,

Alone in the vortex of love and hate,

We wage a lonely war against fate,

Alone we do iron into our soul pump,

Alone into the frightening abyss jump,

Alone we from one day into another tumble,

Alone we repeatedly err and fumble,

Alone we on the stage of life strut

Though wearied inside by the daily rut,

Vainly like Sisyphus rocks up the mountain we roll,

Alone we chase every weary dream, every illusionary goal,

As people wag their tongues and at us gawk ,

Alone into the sunset do we reluctantly walk!

कैसी ये वहशत है

फ़िज़ाओं में भी दहशत है

दहकते अँगारे हैं आज ज़ुबानों पर

लगा पाया कौन पहरे बदगुमानों पर

उल्फ़त पर भी लग गए पहरे

न जाने ये दौर जा कहाँ ठहरे

दुआओं में भी जब नहीं रहा असर

इस माशरे में अब कैसे हो बसर

दरकते पहाड़ भी कुछ बोल रहे

हमारी करनी का हिसाब खोल रहे

कैसी ये अजब दुश्वारी है

इंसान ही इंसान पर भारी है

कैसा ये ख़ौफ़नाक मंज़र है

हर आँख सूनी दिल बंजर है

रगों में रुक गई गोया खून की रवानी

कैसा है ये जोश कैसी ये जवानी
