The best things in life are not things,

It is loving people who give your life wings!

Things are just tools that help you live,

They can not you solace give,

They can not with you in crises stand,

They can not with you in difficult times together band,

They can not offer you a shoulder to cry on,

They can not the mantle of a bosom friend don,

They can not you encourage and inspire,

They can never for your perspire!

They can never lend you a sympathetic ear,

They can not help exorcise your demons of fear!

So do not on things bet,

No love and feeling out of them can you get!

After all they are distant, lifeless and cold,

They can never become your companion warm and bold!

Invest in people if you have to,

That will be a far wiser thing to do!

It is people who will you sustain and nourish,

It is in the shade of their love that you will flower and flourish!

Why over what you don’t have fuss?

Why prove ungrateful thus?

Why don’t you your blessings count?

Why the runaway tiger of dissatisfaction mount?

A sense of inadequacy will you nowhere lead,

It will just the demons of ingatitude feed!

Be aware of the abundance around,

And with vibes of peace and fulfilment yourself surround!

Thank God for what you are,

And see that real contentment is nowhere far!

A sense of abundance can make a pauper feel like a king,

Discontent will make all a king’s wealth hollow ring!

Blessed is the one who embraces the unending wealth of nature,

He is the one who in life gains real stature!

If in your wisdom the tree of contentment you plant,

It will grow before your eyes and heartwarming shade you grant!

जीवन की चुनौतियों का कर सामना डट कर,

व्यवहार क्यों न हो तेरा कुछ हट कर!

बाधाओं को वीरता से पार कर,

उन से डर डर के यूँ बेवजह न मर!

बढ़ा चल निरंतर नए क्षितिजों की ओर,

देख, प्रतीक्षा करती तेरी नित्य एक नयी भोर!

जीवन के उन्माद में तूँ लिप्त न हो,

बन वह सदैव तटस्थ रहे है जो!

जीवन मंच पे तेरी भूमिका हो सशक्त,

पर मोहपाश में न बाँध और न ही हो आसक्त!

पूर्ण न्याय कर अपने निर्धारित पात्र के साथ,

करता रहेगा जो संकोच तो कुछ न लगेगा हाथ!

उन्मुक्त हो कर स्थापित नित्य नए कीर्तिमान,

अभिमान न कर, पर रख सदैव जीवंत अपना स्वाभिमान!

आलिंगन कर जीवन की असीमित संभावनायों का,

देवलोक से अमृत को नीचे धरा पर ला!

प्रकाश पुंज बन धरती को प्रकाशमान कर,

ईश्वर तत्व है तूँ, फिर तुझे किस बात का है डर?

Life is a melody

If you don’t anyone inanely parody!

Life is a song

If you refrain from what is wrong!

Life is a golden chance

In rhythm with the cosmos to dance!

Life is an unending sky

Which invites you higher and higher to fly!

Life is a riveting play

With many shades of grey

But to strut with dignity on the stage it gives you a chance

And offers you an opportunity at eternity to glance!

Life is to many people many things,

While some choose to grovel in the mud, to others it gives wings!

If it is true that life is what you make of it,

Why shouldn’t you to turn it a fascinating journey do your bit?

अमृत हैं बारिश की बूँदें,

मज़ा लो इनका आँखें मूँदे!

वर्षा की शीतल फुहार,

जैसे माँ का दुलार!

रिमझिम बरसता सावन

लगे कितना मनभावन!

तपती धरती को करता तृप्त,

जैसे उसके प्रेम में हो वह लिप्त!

मौज में मेढक टर्राते,

सब हैं झूमते और हैं गाते !

जल से यूँ भर जाते नदियाँ झरने,

जैसे जी जाए कोई जो चला हो मरने!

जी उठती वनस्पति, लहलहाते खेत,

सब मिल कर आनंद हैं लेत!

सावन का रोमांच है अपना,

जैसे सुंदर मीठा सपना!

What is Poetry?

Poetry is a sacred prayer,

It is not a string of words mere!

It is the harbinger of a lost rapture,

The essence of life does for us it capture!

It is a form of meditation,

It draws us out of every agitation!

It takes us out of the gloomy prison of our days,

It shows us of liberating freedom the ways!

Our consciousness does it certainly raise,

It shows us a way out of life’s troubling maze!

The mundane it helps us transcend,

Into the sordid chaos of life it does not let us descend!

Our festering wounds it heals,

To the sordidness of life a decisive blow it deals!

It transforms a curse into a blessing,

Such is its power and such its exquisite dressing!

It pulls us out of the vortex of hate,

With the higher sensibilities of life it helps us keep a date!

Let a thousand poems bloom

To pull us back from the edge of doom!

If you can look yourself squarely

in the eye,

In peace you will live and in peace die!

If on your conscience you have no weight,

As a good person you can yourself rate!

If of your actions you are proud,

Rest assured you will stand out in a crowd!

Dignity is the biggest blessing to seek,

But it is not for the spineless and the weak!

If you are truthful and can hold your head high,

If you life is not a walking lie,

If people and their feelings you have not trampled upon,

If not down the road of perdition you have gone,

If through the storms of life you have kept your dignity intact,

You are the blessed one and deserve true respect!

If you have allowed no one your self-respect to trample upon,

Believe me, a dignified mantle you don!

If on the side of dignity you yourself find,

Consider yourself as the chosen one to whom God is kind!

Dignity is more precious than all your material wealth,

Than it there can be no truer barometer of your inner health!

यह कौन है जो मौन खड़ी,

मुसीबतों से घिरी, मुश्किल में पड़ी!

यह कौन है जो शून्य में तकती,

ऐसा लगे जैसे कुछ कर नहीं सकती!

यह कौन है जिसे कोई कुछ न जाने,

और जिसका अस्तित्व कोई नहीं है माने!

यह कौन है जिसकी सिसकियाँ अंदर ही घुटतीं,

और जिसकी ख्वाहिशें रोज़ हैं लुटतीं,

यह कौन है जो अपनों के लिए मर मिटती,

फिर भी की जाती प्रताड़ित और है पिटती?

यह है हमारे जीवन की धुरी,

जीवन को दे गति जिस ओर भी है मुड़ी!

न देती केवल जीवन दान,हमारे जीवन को सम्मान,

अपितु करती भरन पोषण और प्रदान करती हमें संस्कार,

यह है परिवार का आधार, समाज की सूत्रधार,

मझदार में फँसी नाव को लगाती यह पार!

इसे भी चाहिए न केवल जीवनदान,

पर अपनी जगह, अपनी पहचान,

इसे भी चाहिए अपनी स्वतंत्रता,

क्यों यह माने किसी की परतंत्रता?

क्यों यह कुचले अपने अरमान,

क्यों यह माने अनुचित फ़रमान?,

क्यों न छुए ऊँचाइयों को

इंतज़ार करती उसका जो?

न्याय और मानवता की है यही माँग,

और देश दुनिया का भी इसी में कल्याण!

वही ले जाएगी हमें विश्व प्रेम और शांति की ओर

जिसका आज न कोई ठिकाना, न कोई ठौर !

वही करेगी विश्व कल्याण के सपने को साकार,

वही देगी एक सुंदर , सार्थक और सबल समाज को आकार !

प्यार से इक दूजे को मिलो,

और फूलों की तरह खिलो,

इक दूजे का एहतराम करो,

यूँ न बेवजह घुट घुट के मरो,

यूँ न बेशक़ीमत ज़िंदगी को करो ज़ाया,

न पड़ने दो इस पे इस पे अपनी खुदगर्जियों का साया,

अपनी वीरानियों से खुद को आज़ाद करो,

यूँ न बेमक़सद मौत से पहले मरो!

ज़िंदगी न मिलेगी दुबारा,

फिर क्यों नहीं है तुम्हें ये गवारा?

बड़ी मशक़्क़त के बाद पाया है जिसे,

जियो खुल कर प्यार और एतबार से इसे,

कौन जाने फिर किसी से कोई मिले या न मिले ?

फिर किस बात के शिकवे और गिले ?

We brood on what from our lives is missing,

And for it just go on God dissing!

When we go on committing follies at this rate,

We do nothing but seal our own fate!

The one thing missing from our life makes us so sore

That to happiness and peace we show the door!

Our flawed nature is such

That the abundance we have does not mean much,

To the missing tile syndrome we fall a prey,

Because of one missing tile the whole bright wall to us looks insipid and grey!

Thus, abundance into inadequacy we turn,

And disquiet and restlessness for ourselves earn!

This way our follies we compound,

And without any reason the theory of dissatisfaction propound!
