Walk with me every bit of the way,

Moving together, let us be gay,

Savouring our togetherness wholly,

Let us in mutual warmth glow,

As love from each to the other does flow,

Let this love nurture our soul,

Let it make our fragmented selves whole,

As our solidarity makes our spirits soar,

We should thank our stars and ask for nothing more,

As we walk hand in hand towards the unknown,

In spirit rejuvenated and in confidence grown,

Let us to our togetherness do the honours

Since it has released us from our wretchedness as loners,

A wretchedness that our soul had seared

As the spectre of loneliness its ugly head reared,

A wretchedness that had hollowed us out

Like a feisty and valiant warrior faced with an unprecedented rout!

So let us our love value and cherish,

And pray that no gale of life does our bond perish!

Why not try to be on a roll,

Why let sadness take a heavy toll?

To be happy to yourself you owe,

Why give way easily to moroseness and woe?

Many storms of life will buffet your rafter,

Have the courage to hide your pain behind your laughter,

When life at you the gauntlet does throw,

Do not start howling, don’t knit your brow,

Your defiant laughter at destiny throw,

And see the powerlessness of every angst and woe,

Your invincible courage will take you places in life

Which with ironies and vulnerabilities is rife,

When you laugh, the world will be rooting for you,

There is no better mantle to wear, nothing finer to do!

So be on a roll

Till time takes its toll,

And above you join the luminous stars

Where there is no mortal agony of endless wars,

Wars within and wars without

Which in this world like mushrooms sprout!

The queen has passed on,

Who knows where she has gone?

She has passed into history,

The rest is all a mystery,

She straddled the scene for seventy years,

She presided over her people’s joys and fears,

She was the very epitome of royal grace,

In her deportment you could hardly any blemish trace,

As she clung to the last vestiges of royalty,

She got her subjects’ due deference and loyalty,

As for long she presided over the commonwealth’s fate,

Her heir apparent had to cool his heels and wait,

Now that he has been anointed as the king,

The time has come for his dreams and aspirations to take wing!

This is how chugs along life’s train,

Some passengers get on board while others bow out and detrain!

जहां प्रेम की गंगा बहती,

प्रभु कृपा वहीं है रहती,

प्रेम रस में हैं जो डूबे,

जीवन से वे कभी न ऊबे,

जहां प्रेम प्रेरित व्यवहार,

वहीं होता आनंद संचार,

प्रेम की भाषा जो हैं जाने,

देवगण भी उनकी मानें,

कृष्ण प्रेम में डूबी मीरा,

प्रेम रतन का पाया हीरा,

प्रेम दीवानी हर गोपी नाचे,

प्रेम पोथी को वह बांचे,

उसी से हुआ उसका बेड़ा पार,

प्रेम में निहित है जीवन सार,

प्रेम सूत्र में जो बंध जाए संसार,

प्रभु की होगी कृपा अपार,

वैमनस्य जीवन से ज्यों जाएगा,

स्वर्ग धरती पर ही उतर आएगा,

प्रेम से जब होंगे निर्मल मन,

जीवन बन जाएगा आनंद वन!

My loving and respectful greetings to all my fellow teachers on the eve of Teachers’ Day 2022 ! On this day we should not only reverentially commemorate the memory of the great scholar, philosopher, teacher and statesman, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, by trying to emulate the all time greats like him but should also renew our pledge to do our best for our students with all the love, affection, dedication, knowledge and integrity at our command. A teacher should not only know the way and show the way but also walk the way if he/she wants to play a transformative role and touch his/ her students’ life in some lasting positive manner. A teacher should never lose sight of the fact that much more than making his/ her students proficient in the subject he/ she is teaching, he/she has been assigned by his/ her very role the sacred task of producing good, awakened and enlightened human beings who, when they go out into the world after passing out of schools, colleges and universities, are not only enabled to make a decent honest living but also spread their fragrance everywhere and help make this world a better place to live in . After having taught for 42 years and having got abundant love and regard from my students down the years, I can say with confidence and authenticity that teaching is one of the most beautiful professions provided you are committed to your students as you are to your own children, provided you realise the profound sanctity of the teacher-taught relationship in line with the very sacred guru-shishya parampara this great country has held up like a bright burning torch for the world to see, provided you believe deep down that you are not, to use the lingo of today’s market driven world, a mere facilitator and your students not mere clients but are more than parents to them ( imagine defiling the parent- child relationship by calling parents mere facilitators and their children their clients!), provided you realise that God has given your the challenging and enormous but wonderfully unique task of moulding the clay in your hands into aesthetically rich and life-enhancing shapes with fine sensibilities. My heart-felt thanks and gratitude to all my teachers who made me what I am today, my felicitations to all my colleagues, past and present, who have rendered yeoman’s service to this pious profession and to the legion of teachers today who are doing great work and are our hope for tomorrow. Let us all, the teachers of the world, renew our pledge today to live up to the expectations the tag of a teacher arouses in the mind of the society at large and acquit ourselves with integrity and honour in the profound cause of education. Last but not the least, a big warm thanks to our dear students, past and present, for all their love and affection and for giving us a cause worth living and dying for and for enriching our lives beyond measure.

Pity the people who are liars,

Of untruth they are the purveyors and buyers,

They compromise their soul,

In falsehood is steeped their role,

They sink deeper into a bog of their own making,

This is what becomes of an existence based on faking,

To the highest bidder is their soul up for sale,

Of redemption they are beyond the pale,

As their ill reputation far and wide travels,

As their wretched life slowly but surely unravels,

The devil winks at them in glee

As their conscience far from them does flee!

As in their web of deceit are they caught,

Isn’t their life with misery fraught?

दिल से दिल मिलें,

रूह के गुल खिलें,

तो कुछ बात बने!

हाथों में हों हाथ,

सब मिलकर बढ़ें साथ,

तो कुछ बात बने!

सब को गले लगाएँ,

सब की लें बलाएँ,

तो कुछ बात बने!

पर ज़िंदगी नहीं देती सदा सुख,

हवाएँ मोड़ लेती हैं अपना रुख़,

चाहे आग बरसाए अब्र,

फिर भी न खोएँ सब्र,

तो कुछ बात बने!

चाहे दामन हो चाक,

फिर भी सोच रहे पाक,

इतर की मानिंद फ़िज़ा में घुल जाएँ,

सब की लें दुआएँ,

तो कुछ बात बने!

चाहे न जाने कोई हमारा मर्म,

ज़िंदगी दे चाहे कितने ज़ख़्म,

चुपचाप उन्हें सिए जाएँ,

जज़्ब का जाम पिए जाएँ,

तो कुछ बात बने!

चाहे न हो कुछ क़सूर,

ज़िंदगी बन जाए नासूर,

तब भी हौंसला बना रहे ज़रूर,

ढह जाना न हो क़तई मंज़ूर,

तो कुछ बात बने!

चाहे दुशवार हो रास्ता,

सब रोकें, दे मुहब्बतों का वास्ता,

फिर भी ख़ौफ़ न खाएँ,

मुसलसल आगे बढ़ते जाएँ,

तो कुछ बात बने!

चाहे दिल हो तार-तार,

फिर भी हर लम्हा बनाएँ यादगार,

बेबाक़ हों और ऐसे बे-फ़िक्र,

कि हर दौर में हो ज़िक्र,

तो कुछ बात बने!

तिरंगे की हम शान बढ़ाएँ,

चरित्र को अपने सबल बनाएँ,

लक्ष्य हों ऊँचे, साधन नेक,

आगे बढ़ें हम होकर एक,

आज़ादी के बनें रखवाले,

देश की गरिमा के मतवाले,

इस पुण्य धरा को शीश नवायें,

विश्व को शांति का पाठ पढ़ाएँ,

सबका साथ, सबका विकास,

सबके जीवन में घुले मिठास,

सबका हो सम्मिलित प्रयास,

राष्ट्र रचे एक नया इतिहास,

गौरवमयी इतिहास दोहराएँ,

अद्वितीय संस्कृति का ध्वज फहरायें,

अदम्य साहस, ज्वलंत ललाट,

सौभाग्य के खुल जाएँ पाट,

‘स्व’ अमृत का करें रसपान,

नए शिखर हों, नव सोपान ,

स्वाधीनता का पावन पर्व मनाएँ,

भारत विश्वगुरु बन जाए ,

जिससे विश्व का हो कल्याण,

जगत बने सुंदर उद्यान!

बावरा गली-गली में घूमे,

नाचे, गाए, मस्ती में झूमे,

न वह जाने कपट, न छल,

सच्चा उसका हरेक पल,

अबोध बालक सा वह फिरता,

उसका मनोबल कभी न गिरता,

तितली के पीछे वह भागे,

नहीं उलझे उसके मन के धागे,

उड़ते बादल को वह पकड़े,

उसे कोई कुंठा नहीं जकड़े,

जो मन आए वही वह करता,

मौज में रहता, नहीं वह डरता,

जीवन सरिता के संग बहता,

न कुछ सुनता, न वह कहता,

अपनी डफली, अपना राग,

खुद ही सजाए मन का बाग,

अपनी धुन में रहता मगन,

जैसे रहती मस्त पवन,

पर जब देखे वह अंधी होड़,

मार-धाड़ और हृदय कठोर,

छीना-झपटी, आपा-धापी,

पुण्यात्मा कहलाते हैं जो पापी,

ऐसी दुनिया को वह पागल जाने,

चाहे दुनिया उसे बावरा माने!

मैं हूँ कौन?

यह बताएगा तुम्हें मौन,

मौन में है ईश्वर बिराजे,

मौन में ही है सच साजे,

मौन से उपजी यह सृष्टि,

मौन में व्याप्त दिव्य-दृष्टि,

मौन में है जीवन का सार,

मौन लगाए बेड़ा पार,

मन के शोर का हल एक मौन,

मौन के आगे सब भ्रम गौण,

मौन ही करे असत्य का खंडन,

मौन ही करे सत्य का मंडन,

मौन की महिमा मौनी ही जाने

क्योंकि मौन को वह सब कुछ माने!
