Do not to anything try to hold fast,
As nothing will forever last,
Joys and sorrows come and go,
Be a viewer of the eternal flitting show,
When the shadow of impermanence everything chases,
When even the grandest edifice built time razes,
When everything vanishes like a passing cloud,
Why should any attempt to cling your thinking shroud?
View the goings-on in life with dispassion,
As transience casts everything after its fashion.
As the moving shadows flit past,
As the whirring reel of life moves fast,
Watch the advancing and retreating waves from the shore,
Be an uninvolved witness, don’t ask for anything more!

Superb, sir. kudos!👏👏
Transience is the keynote of everything in this temporal life. Acceptance of this truth only can liberate us from sorrows. I’m reminded of Gray’s “Paths of glory lead but to the grave” and Keats’ solution “ beauty is truth, truth beauty”… that’s what u, as an artist, are doing. Art is the only thing, beautiful, true and eternal.
Poets are really blessed…one with Brahma the Creator!
Keep creating more lustrous gems, sir

Thank you very much, Manjula Ma’m, for your very kind words and the still kinder feelings and enlightened thoughts behind them! Happy that the poem which speaks of an eternal truth of life touched you somewhere inside and reminded you of Gray and Keats! Let your own creative juices flow and stay blessed.
