A Bubbly Young Person Raring to Go

She is a bubbly young person

Raring  to go

With a spring in her step

And a sparkle in her eyes.

I wonder what she is aiming for.

Is she aiming for the sky

Or something less or something more?

Maybe she wants to reach out and touch

The rainbow in the sky

And bathe in its translucent glow

Or perhaps she is angling for the stars beyond.

May be she wants to go with the wind

Or stay quiet like the air

That sometimes becomes so still.

I wonder what the smile

That plays on her lips all the time is  about.

Maybe she smiles at her milling dreams

That dance in her heart,

Dreams of her Prince Charming

Who will come to take her away

On his white majestic horse,

Dreams of a bright and engaging career,

Dreams of an amazing life she will build,

Dreams of a wonderful family she will raise,

Dreams of friendships she will forge,

Dreams of this and dreams of that!

Or maybe she smiles at the thought

That life itself is a dream!

You can see so many thoughts

About so many things

Crisscrossing her nimble mind

And flitting across her face.

You can see that she is all set

To fly to meet her destiny,

But you can also see in her eyes

The pain of and wistfulness about

What she is leaving behind!

Though I know she knows it herself,

I feel like giving voice to the truth

That you can never touch again

The river waters that have flowed away,

That there is no coming back in life,

That even if you come back,

Neither you are the same

Nor the ones you come back to,

That in life you win some and you lose some,

That life is to be lived in moments

With nothing behind and nothing ahead

Except a host of memories ,

Some faint, some vivid,

Some sweet and some bitter,

And just tenuous and nebulous plans

About a future you know nothing of!

That is life with all its ironies and mysteries

But also with its immense possibilities,

Take it or leave it, lump it or leave it!

I, her fellow traveller through the journey of life,

Wish her a rich and fulfilling life,

A life that is nevertheless bound

To be trailed by countless ironies

A calm acceptance of which will come

With a greater understanding of life

Which i wish her more than anything else!
