Why?

Why is it that

In today’s world love goes a begging 

While hate fumes and thrives? 

Why is it that 

Politeness is construed as a weakness 

While insolence rules the roost? 

Why is it that

Honesty is shown the door

While dishonesty base passions drives? 

Why is it that

Humility is considered passe 

While everyone’s ego needs a boost? 

Why is it that 

Grossness calls the shots

While refinement is booted out?

Why is it that

Chaotic noise holds sway

While to be heard you have to shout out? 

When will we 

This  perverse order invert 

That our civilised life 

Is about to subvert?
