And So This Perennial Battle Rages

When loneliness cuts into your soul,
It no longer lets you remain whole!
When what you love you kill,
Nothing that you ever
do in life will fit the bill!
When indifference sears you to the bone,
You feel as if meaning out of your life has gone!
When contempt your skin does cut,
You feel you have taken a hit on your gut!
When love out of the window flies,
The innermost cell of your being cries!
When deceipt and duplicity hold sway,
You constantly find yourself in an existential fray!
When wisdom from the shore of life recedes,
Human folly all around apace proceeds!
When conflict and discord rule the roost,
They no way your will to live boost!
When you you see a callous rat race unfold before your eyes,
You sadly realise that there could be no bigger vice!
When for naked power we see the lust,
When we see our collective conscience rust,
And see goodness being ground to dust,
At times our faith in humanity goes bust!
But then we summon our courage to live to fight another day,
And do all we can to keep defeatism at bay!
And so this perennial battle rages,
For trying to live well you have to pay these wages!
